Antonio D’Aquilio is currently working as Building Services and Building Physics engineer at Arup Amsterdam. His field of interest and expertise is the envelope performance and energy efficiency in buildings, with focus on computational processes and simulation. After obtaining a BSc in Architecture Sciences at the University of Roma Tre in Rome, he moved to the Netherlands where I graduated from the MSc in Building Technology at TU Delft. His graduation topic focused on the implementation of natural ventilation strategies within an energy optimization process for early design stage of commercial buildings. In 2015, he has been researcher in TU Delft, within the Design Informatics research team. Here he worked on a computational workflow for the quick evaluation of natural ventilation performance of large sport buildings. Currently, his work in Arup is building envelope computational analysis and optimization and design of building services for delivering indoor thermal comfort and air quality.

RESEARCH

As a researcher in TU Delft, Antonio mainly worked on the research entitled ‘Simulating Natural Ventilation in Large Sports Buildings: Prediction of Temperature and Airflow Patterns in the Early Design Stages’, which investigates the benefits of incorporating natural ventilation into the early architectural design of large indoor volumes (such as sport buildings) as well as the use of computational optimization. As well known, in most buildings a large part of energy consumption is due to air conditioning, heating and ventilation. Properly providing passive strategies can allow reduction of such energy consumption. Generally, his research field is the investigation of simulation strategies of building envelope performance and the related reduction of energy demand in buildings. Particular interest is the optimization in early design stage, supported by parametric design, and the way this relates to architectural design.
